Chris Pratt called opponents during Last Day Filming Guardians of the Galaxy 3

James Gunn and Chris Pratt are less than a year away from bringing their work Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to the big screen, completing one of the most unexpectedly successful trilogies in film history. The Trikvel recently celebrated its last filming before its release date of May 5, 2023 while the Guardians are looking to make their mark in the fandom again.

To say that no one saw the success of this team coming could be considered a massive understatement, as only avid Marvel Comics fans even knew who the Guardians were before their on-screen debut in 2014. The recipe was weird, to say the least – unknown director, Andy de Parks and Entertainment as the protagonist, and its two biggest stars only in the film as voiceovers all joining the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It is safe to say that most projections for Guardians of the Galaxy were fairly modest in 2014, especially going against Phase 2 sequels like Ferulo 3, Thor: The Dark Worldand Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, as the third film in its trilogy prepares for its own theatrical run, director James Gunn has revisited this unlikely journey with a specific focus on those opponents.

Wonderful

Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director James Gunn went to Twitter to reflect on the opponents and doubters he and his cast faced before the release of his first film inside the MCU.

In response to a fan who looked back, how many people asked if fans needed the Guardians’ first film, Gunn notes how often he and the team were bombarded with such questions. He even included a specific February 2014 article stating that Guardians of the Galaxy would be a failure:

“And the cast & crew & I were constantly bombarded with articles like this (Guardians went on to make more money than the initial films of all the other characters.)”

Gunn learned about the article thanks to Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt, who included it as part of a list of titles like this as part of a speech he gave. on the final day of shooting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:

“I knew about this article because Chris Pratt gave a nice speech on the last day of shooting Vol 3 where he listed the value of one minute of headlines and quotes like this.”

Gunn also responded to another fan praising Gunn for taking “D-list” characters like DC’s Star-Lord and Peacemaker, noting how the poster was about “the characters” themselves instead of John Cena from Pratt and Peacemaker:

For those of you screaming about John not being a D-lister, the original post talks about the characters, not the actors.

Thanking another fan for praise regarding his work on those characters, he also made sure no one was “underestimation” some of the lesser-known heroes with comics who were just as successful as those with more recognizable characters:

“Thank you! But you may be underestimating some of those ‘d-list’ Marvel characters whose comics have sold as much as Superman and WW for twenty years or more (Batman, on the other hand, is, and almost always has been, a cartoonist).”

Overcoming Appearances by Popularizing Guardians

Eight years later Guardians of the Galaxy has entered cinemas as the 10th Marvel Studios film, the team is well known and has fans waiting where they will come later in the MCU. Gunn and Pratt have pushed forward to prove any doubters wrong with their work under the umbrella of Marvel Studios, and it’s an almost insignificant miracle to see them reach such high peaks.

It even seemed emotional for Gunn to be reminded of those opponents as Guardians 3‘S shooting has come to an end, with Pratt taking the sentimental path and contemplating their journey together. One can only imagine how many other negative headlines he brought back into the spot, like they completed their third and possibly largest solo film by Star-Lord and his ragged gang of villains.

Now, the Rangers are ready for arguably the biggest year they’ve ever had as a unit, with three appearances lined up for 2022 alone ahead of their third solo outing next year. The vigil Baby Groot will pay attention in August I’m Groot for almost the entire team will shine in real action while Thor: Love and Thunder and this year Special Faireverything before next year will lead the team to new levels of excitement.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2023.
