Passport Point of Sale
Greensboro, NC, May 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Gilbarco Veeder-Root announced today an initiative to further increase the industry-leading reliability and flexibility of Passport Outlet by leveraging Edge’s Reliant Platform computing at the opportunity. store environment.
The content development currently in progress for Passport® Point-of-Sale, simplifies the traditional sales architecture; enabling faster upgrades and increased overall performance and durability. Operating a Passport as a container-based application on Agora’s Reliant Platform enables full local redundancy of the Point of Sale – even when internet connectivity fails.
“We are very excited about what it means to have content for Passport customers, as it enables edge computing soon but also facilitates cloud hosting in the future when and if customers require it.” said Chris Whitley, North American vice president of sales and marketing for Gilbarco Veeder-Root. “Potters today can’t afford to be offline, and we believe this technology brings us a significant step closer to near-zero failure. It will be a game changer for all c-shop merchants. “
Today, most point-of-sale systems require each cash register terminal to run a range of necessary applications along with extra hardware components. A containerized Passport system will run all of these applications from a local edge server. This new architecture provides greater hardware flexibility, lower capital investment and, most importantly, faster deployment and maximum operation.
“The future of c-store retail is based on providing personalized customer experiences with technology with improved performance and reliability,” said Phil Stead, vice president of Edge Platform Sales at acumera. “Acuma’s Reliant Platform accelerates Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s cloud-to-edge strategy, enabling the delivery of systems and applications on a large scale. We are honored to partner with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to help customers advance their businesses.”
Along with fewer components and a simplified architecture, containerization gives retailers new options such as the ability to use Passport POS software on any browser hardware they choose. Edge servers are easily upgraded, allowing retailers to add unlimited numbers of distributors without changing the store’s POS architecture, providing flexibility on the front yard as well.
