Johnny Depp greets adoring fans as jury begins controversy in Depp against Amber Heard libel lawsuit

Johnny Depp was pictured smiling and waving to fans as he left court on Friday while Amber Heard was seen embracing his lawyer as jurors began consideration in the bitter trial for $ 100 million in libel.

The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor looked in a good mood as he left and shook hands with police officers before reassuring the large crowd of fans outside who were armed with banners and cameras.

As jurors withdrew on Friday, a libel expert suggested that Amber Heard could be prosecuted for allegations that she “edited injury photos” that were used as part of evidence in the lawsuit.

Depp is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard en Virginia for $ 50 million, arguing that she slandered him when she called herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse” in an opinion piece she wrote.

Co-actor Heard, 36, sued for $ 100 million, saying Depp smeared her when his lawyer called her allegations a “deception.”

Defamation attorney Aaron Minc told news outlet JOE that despite initially deciding that there was a “zero or less than 1 percent chance” Heard would face prosecution, he has since changed his mind.

He told JOE: ‘I think that as this case goes on, and we’re starting to see more and more objective evidence that she’s lying about things under oath, then it’s starting to cross the line into the possibility that she’s making evidence, making pictures, making . contusions, changing evidence and then submitting it. ‘

Mr Minc described fabricating the evidence as “really serious” and “really offensive” to the judiciary, adding:

Jurors discussing the second defamation suit were postponed yesterday without making any verdicts, leaving the resolution in the widely observed six-week trial until next week.

The seven-person jury deliberated for more than two hours on Friday and will resume discussions on Tuesday after the U.S. Memorial Day holiday.

Before final arguments began, Judge Penney Azcarate told the jury that their names would be sealed for a year due to the “high-profile nature” of the trial.

At the beginning of the trial she made no such verdict.

Depp denied beating Heard or any woman and said she was the one who became violent in their relationship.

– Mr. Depp has experienced constant verbal, physical and emotional abuse from Mrs Heard, ” lawyer Camille Vasquez said in closing arguments on Friday.

She said Heard’s allegations of abuse by Depp, including sexual assault with a bottle of alcohol, were “wild, excessive and unlikely” and ruined his reputation in Hollywood and among fans.

“We ask you to give Mr. Depp back his life by telling the world that Mr. Depp is not the abuser Mrs. Heard says he is,” Vasquez said.

Vasquez noted expert accounts that diagnosed Heard with Borderline Personality Disorder and called the actress a “deep, troubled person” who is “desperate for attention and approval.”

– There is an abuser in this court but it is not Mr. Depp. She is a victim of abuse in this court but she is not Miss Heard, ‘Vaquez said. ‘Miss Heard is in fact the abuser and Mr. Depp is the abuser.’

Heard’s lawyer Benjamin Rottenborn, in his closing argument, reminded jurors of Depp’s explicit text messages to friends or partners.

In one, Depp called Heard a “dirty whore” and said he wanted her dead and “fucked her burned corpse.”

“This is a window into the heart and mind of America’s favorite pirate,” Rottenborn said. ‘This is the real Johnny Depp.’

At the heart of the case is Heard’s December 2018 opinion in the Washington Post, in which she made the statement about domestic abuse. The article never mentioned Depp by name, but his lawyer told jurors that it was clear Heard was referring to him.

Heard’s lawyers argued that she was telling the truth and that her comments were covered up as free speech under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

‘Your key question to answer is‘ does the First Amendment give Mrs Heard the right to write the words she wrote? ’” Rottenborn told the jury. “You can’t support the First Amendment and get Johnny Depp’s favor at the same time.”

Depp and Heard met in 2011 while filming “The Rum Diary” and were married in February 2015. Their divorce was finalized about two years later.

During six weeks of proceedings, jurors listened to recordings of the former couple’s fights and saw graphic photos of Depp’s bloody finger.

Depp said Heard threw a vodka bottle that cut off the tip of his finger during an argument in 2015. Heard denied injuring Depp’s finger and said Depp sexually assaulted her that night with a bottle of alcohol.

The testimony was widely circulated on social media, attracting large audiences to hear details about the couple’s troubled relationship.

Once among Hollywood’s biggest stars, Depp said Heard’s accusations cost him “everything.” A new movie “Pirates” was discontinued, and Depp was replaced in the movie franchise “Fantastic Beasts”, a spin-off “Harry Potter”.

Depp lost a libel case less than two years ago against the Sun, a British gossip newspaper that labeled him a “wife-beater”. A London High Court judge has ruled that he repeatedly attacked Heard.

Depp’s lawyers filed the U.S. case in Fairfax County, Virginia, because the Washington Post is printed there. The newspaper is not accused.
