“She had a bad fall on Dancing On Ice and an injury to her knee then flared up, as it had done before from time to time.

“Gemma knows she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demands of a tense show like Chicago.

“She knew her lines by heart and it was even said that she could reduce the rehearsals because she knew the inside part.

“She had X-ray two weeks ago and then visited someone on her knee last Friday, which meant she missed a rehearsal.

Brenda will now take Gemma’s place in production, starting June 2nd.

“It simply came to our notice then. However, she had to admit defeat and accept the inevitable.

“She’s still able to walk around but dancing, singing and acting in 48 performances over six weeks with the whole trip stuck in a car meant she couldn’t give it her all.”

Brenda will now star in the production alongside Lee Mead’s previously announced cast as Billy Flynn, Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly, Jamie Baughan as Amos Hart and BE Wong as Mary Sunshine.

Her run will run until July 23 with dates at Cardiff New Theater, Winter Gardens Blackpool, Sheffield Lyceum Theater, Norwich Theater Royal and New Theater Oxford.
