Kate Smurthwaite appears on Piers Morgan Uncensored

A comedian and activist claimed she was “censored” before appearing on TalkTV show Piers Morgan Uncensored and was not allowed to challenge her “obsession” with Meghan Markle.

Kate Smurthwaite, 46, told The Mirror how producers warned that certain things were off the agenda when she appeared on the former Good Morning Britain host’s uninterrupted talk show.

Kate was invited to appear on the show as Piers will share more thoughts on Meghan Markle.

The political comedian claimed that on the morning of the show, producers asked her not to repeat thoughts she had expressed about Piers before, especially that she believed he had a “bad attitude” and a “childish obsession” with Meghan.

Piers shot Kate again Twittersaying that after talking to producers, he is confident that she was not censored before appearing on the show.

He tweeted, “I just checked and no one tried to censor you – we don’t censor guests, that’s the point of the show.”

TalkTV was also contacted for comment.

Speaking to the Mirror about the show’s producers, Kate said, “They were looking forward to having me. The only thing was … they’d like me not to mention some of the things I said in our earlier conversation.”

Kate said this is about how she felt Piers spent too much time commenting on Meghan’s every move.

She continued: “They didn’t want me to criticize or seek to explain his vengeful obsession with her.”

The comedian claimed that there was only one person to blame for her being told what she claimed she was told not to say, and that was Piers himself.

She wrote: “I don’t blame the producer. The task of producing a show like this is 95% censorship.”

“By which I mean to choose which voices and views will be issued and therefore, inevitably, which will not.”

Kate added: “This makes Piers Morgan’s interest in free speech look purely hypocritical, in my opinion.

“If, as he later claimed on Twitter, there was no effort to censor me, his producers wouldn’t have warned me before that I shouldn’t do ‘too personal’ with Piers while discussing Meghan’s topic.”

Kate spoke after Twitter spat with the TV host after she claimed on social media that she had been “censored” before appearing on the show.

She wrote on Twitter, along with a self-portrait of her holding a bottle of wine, which she received after the show: “Today in #MyLifeIsWeird I’m sitting in the green room for Piers Morgan SENCENSORED (the producer just told me things NOT to say on the air LOL #In fact Censored ) when the other guest arrives, who will be in the second half of the show. It’s JOAN COLLINS …

“… She is escorted to a private dressing room opposite and immediately gives a glass of Dom Perignon. She refuses and asks if she could have white wine instead. I generously propose to remove the Dom P to save on food waste in the midst of a cost of living crisis. ..

“… Unfortunately a member of the production team first came in and caught it. After I tell Piers that the Conservatives are terrible and we should get rid of the monarchy, I go back to the green room to find that Joan’s personal butler has heard of my funny joke / alcohol problem and …

“… brought me a bottle of wine to take home to make up for it to me. Bottoms up right? !!”

Piers Morgan saw the thread on Twitter and jumped in to defend his producers, claiming that Kate had not been censored before her appearance.

He wrote: “I just checked and no one tried to censor you – we don’t censor guests, that’s the point of the show.”

Kate clicked back to Piers, writing, “Yes, I was. Great to get me back and I’ll say all the things I was ordered not to say.”
