If you have spent too much time online – for work or, perhaps mistakenly, for pleasure – you may feel the urge to do something on the internet that is not as devastating as reading the news and continuing with Elon Musk. For those times, consider sharing your hour on the social media that is Twitter for a few minutes scrolling through a nice Reddit thread, or discovering the vastness of space.

Here are my picks of the top 10 places on the internet right now. Some may alleviate your worries, others may encourage them to thrive, but they are all worth a visit.

The eye bleach subreddit

When I first came across the white-eyed subred, I thought it would be full of things so terrible, so deeply troubled, that you would need to whiten your eyes after seeing them. But luckily, I was wrong! With 3.4 million members posting only the most beautiful content, r / eyebleach is, instead, full of things to watch when you need your eyes whitened by the deluge of horror on the internet. Scroll through, and you’ll find a a photo of three dogs with their heads resting on each otheror a a bear cub doing what I can only describe as a lil ‘jigor some guy gaining the trust of a hummingbird.

This one isn’t as pretty as some of the other options on this list but unbearably fascinating. If you are interested in AI and deep flaws, this site will either make you very excited or give you a lot of nightmares. Here, computer scientists generate fake people using generic opposite networks, or GAN, and then show them to you every time you refresh the page. Similarly, you may enjoy it This Cat Doesn’t Exist, This Artwork Does Not Exist, This Horse Does Not Existand, for the most nerdy of us, This Chemical Does Not Exist.

Whether you’re a fan of the British-Irish rock band Idles or not, AF Gang is one of the best places to spend time online. They have a subreddit and a Facebook page, dedicated not only to the music of Idles but also to creating a community in which talking about mental health is welcome.
