Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan will return in the sequel to Willow Disney +

Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan will return in the upcoming Disney + show Willow, which is a television series sequel to the 1988 fantasy film of the same name.

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainmentexecutive producer Jonathan Kasdan and returning star Warwick Davis have confirmed that the 62-year-old actor, who played the heroic warrior in the original film, will be featured in the upcoming series.

‘Val is a big part of this, and the first conversation I had when Warwick and I got the green light to do that was with Val,’ Jonathan told Yahoo.

He continued, ‘We wanted his character to be part of the story. We wanted him to be on the show. ‘

Writer of The Solo: A Star Wars Story explained that Val was unable to join the cast during production due to the COVID-19 lockdowns but said the star is on the show “big”.

Kasdan, 42, said, ‘Because we shot while [the COVID-19 lockdowns], he could not come to Wales and shoot with us. But he’s on the show in a big way.

The original film was directed by Ron Howard and produced by George Lucas. It starred Warwick as Willow Ufgood, a Nelwyn dwarf and aspiring wizard who was tasked with protecting the baby Elora Danan (Kate and Ruth Greenfield) so she can fulfill a prophecy and end the rule of the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh).

Along the way, Willow crosses paths with a disgraced knight Madmartigan, who later enters the dwarf’s search.

The 52-year-old Star Wars actor has also discussed his long-standing friendship with Val, whom he deserves to help him get through filming Willow.

‘[Val and I] has been in touch since we made the film, and we’re good friends and he’s a great guy, ‘he told Yahoo. – I still assign myself to pass the film to Val.

– He saved my soul when conditions were really treacherous and difficult. I was cold, wet, tired. He made me laugh, kept the whole thing funny. ‘

New cast member Ruby Cruz, who plays Princess Kit, told Yahoo that Madmartigan is “part of the show in a very big way for my character”.

Val and Joanne, who fell in love with Willow while filming, were married from 1988 to 1996. They share a 30-year-old daughter, Mercedes, and a 26-year-old son, Jack.

On Thursday, the 60-year-old actress attended the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California to participate in a panel discussion on Willow.

According to Comic BookJonathan talked about Val’s involvement during the panel discussion and shed some further light on how Madmartigan will be included in the series.

‘Val was in communication with Joann [Whalley] and Madmartigan and I are a character in the story and what we failed to shoot with him on Season 1, we made him a major figure in the story, ‘he said.

The series, which takes place 20 years after the original film, will also star Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Talisa Garcia, Dempsey Bryk and Amar Chadha-Patel.

Val was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015 and went public with his health struggles in 2017.

The Tombstone star underwent a tracheostomy in 2016, which permanently damaged his vocal cords and made it difficult for him to speak even though he is now cancer-free.

In 2021, his life and career were featured in the documentary Val by Leo Scott and Ting Poo.

Val was also a producer of the documentary, which frankly showed his battle with laryngeal cancer.

The actor, who co-starred with Tom Cruise in the 1986 classic Top Gun, recently reprized his role in the sequel to 2022 Top Gun: Maverick.
